It’s so easy to forget about staying hydrated in the winter! During the summertime, it feels natural to guzzle water to quench your thirst. But during the winter when you’re focused on staying warm, often the last thing we want to reach for is a cold glass of water.
However, dehydration is still very common during the winter months. When you think about the fact that our bodies are composed of 75% water, hydration is essential and one of the most important ways to take care of our bodies! Adequate hydration is beneficial for exercise, sleep and so many other natural body functions.
Here are a few tips to stay hydrated, no matter the season:
- Fill a water bottle or glass of water by your bed. Chug it first thing in the morning. Cameron Diaz chugs a full liter of water every morning. The rush of hydration of your body helps with the production of blood and muscle cells, flushes your lymphatic system, purges toxins AND gives you a boost of energy! It’s also a super-easy way to get water in first thing in the morning.
- Switch it up! If plain water is hard for you to keep drinking, consider adding fresh fruit to infuse your water. You could also warm up during the winter months with hot water and lemon or hot tea!
- Add in a high-quality electrolyte replacement drink! Quality electrolyte replacement drinks help your body to replace minerals and electrolytes lost through sweat and helps your body stay hydrated during physical activity. Be sure to keep an eye on which electrolyte replacement drink you are choosing! Many are loaded with sugar.
- Carry a water bottle with you wherever you go! If you constantly have a water bottle in your hand, it’s easy to remember to drink up.
