TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF!

I’m Jazmin Davis and I’m 25-years-young living in McFarland, WI which is a short 5-minute drive from Madison, WI. My fiancé and I are first time parents to a beautiful baby girl named Ari. Ari just turned 2 months old. We also have a cute 2-year-old border collie named Stitch. Luckily, I get to work from home all while getting to stay at home to raise our little girl. I love sports, any outdoor activity, traveling and anything that calls for an adventure.

HOW DID YOU GET INTO HEALTH AND FITNESS? WHAT DID YOUR JOURNEY LOOK LIKE?

Growing up I’ve always been into sports, outdoor activities, and anything that called for an adventure. It wasn’t until a year or so after high school when I got really into fitness. I started working out every morning, prepping my meals and staying on track with a routine.

It was definitely hard at first getting in the swing of things and not giving in to temptations of junk food. Starting my fitness journey was definitely the best thing I had ever done for myself because I had lost 40-45lbs. Not only did I look good; I felt good too, mentally and physically. I know it’s not all about the looks, but it’s more of a mood booster because I had accomplished something so big that I never thought I could do.

After a few years, I realized that I wanted to be able to help others feel accomplished and live a healthier lifestyle. I took a chance and became a personal trainer. I soon got a job at a Boot Camp as a group fitness trainer. It was honestly the best decision I’ve made and definitely the best job I’ve ever had.

After being pregnant and giving birth, I have gained most of the weight back that I’ve lost. But I’m determined to get that fit body back and become even better than before.

During my pregnancy, I did not work out much because I had really bad back pain. This back pain made it hard to even do your simple everyday things. I’m hoping that putting my story out on social media for people to follow, will inspire others that with hard work and dedication, you can live a healthier lifestyle and become a better you no matter the setback.

HOW DO YOU ENCOURAGE OR EDUCATE OTHERS ABOUT LIVING A HEALTHY LIFESTYLE?

Living a healthier lifestyle is definitely something you won’t regret doing. I do it not only for myself but now also for my daughter. As she grows up, I want to be her role model and someone she looks up to. I know it will be difficult to get her to eat some fruits and veggies as she gets older, but I still want to give her the knowledge of the great benefit of eating fruits and veggies, as well as other healthy foods.

I also want to encourage many others who are interested in learning more about the benefits of eating healthy and working out. It doesn’t mean that you have to stop everything cold turkey and start only eating healthy unless you want to, but just switching up snacks or beverages choices can go a long way. One healthy choice can lead to many other healthy choices. The same goes for working out. You don’t necessarily have to go sign up at a boot camp or get a gym membership right away. Just going for walks around your neighborhood is a step in the right direction.

WHY DO YOU THINK IT’S IMPORTANT TO EDUCATE OTHERS ABOUT LIVING A HEALTHY LIFESTYLE?

I feel it’s important to educate others about living a healthy lifestyle because it could be something that they didn’t know they were missing. It could potentially change their lives, as it did for mine.

I may have been in every sport possible back in high school, but I definitely wasn’t the fittest athlete. All I did was eat junk food. I didn’t have the proper knowledge about how eating healthy would help me lose the pounds that didn’t seem to go away with doing sports. I’m still learning what new things that I can do to help keep me on track with my weight loss goals and living a healthier lifestyle.

WHAT SUGGESTIONS DO YOU HAVE FOR THOSE LOOKING TO START LIVING A HEALTHIER LIFE?

If you’re looking to change your life for the better than do it! Exercise not only changes your body, but it also changes your mind, your attitude and your mood. Who wouldn’t want to feel like a whole new person that not only looks good physically but feels good mentally?!

If you’re just starting out, don’t get discouraged that you’re not seeing fast results. Don’t get caught up on looking at the scale every day and not seeing the numbers go down. It’s all about how good you feel, or how you see your clothes fitting differently. It’s a process and takes time to start seeing results. You’re not losing anything by trying, so why not give it a shot. It’s a step in the right direction to becoming a better YOU!

WHAT DOES A TYPICAL DAY OF EATING AND WORKOUTS LOOK LIKE FOR YOU?

A typical day of eating for me consists of 3 meals and 2-3 snacks. My fiancé and I try to meal prep for the week on Sunday or Monday, depending on our schedule. We usually will prep lunch and dinner, and will just make a quick and easy breakfast throughout the week.

Most mornings I get to sleep in a bit because my fiancé is nice enough to take care of Ari until he has to go to work. When I get up, I make myself some eggs, turkey bacon, one piece of whole-grain toast and a glass of good ol’ OJ. I usually eat my snacks in between the main meals. Sometimes I’ll have a late-night snack, aka my sweet tooth craving.

My snacks consist of hard-boiled eggs or cottage cheese with chunks of cucumbers. For my sweet tooth craving, I’ll have low-fat vanilla yogurt sprinkled with a little bit of cinnamon and fruit. I don’t like working out on a full stomach, so I workout in the morning or before a meal.

It’s a little hard to have a set workout schedule now that I’m at home taking care of Ari. I definitely try to use her nap times as a good time to get a quick home workout in. Lately, we’ve been trying to switch up the meals that we make for lunch and dinner. We try not to get too repetitive with meals because who wants to eat the same thing every week? Not me!

For our main course meals, we make sure that we choose some sort of protein, carbs and veggies. An example of one of our meals would be honey glazed turkey meatballs, brown rice and broccoli. It was super delicious and very refreshing compared to my just plain old chicken, rice, and veggies. Which of course isn’t always bad, but it’s nice to switch it up here and there.
