Tell us about yourself!
Hi – I’m Emily Logan! I’m originally from Clear Lake, Iowa, but I’ve lived in the South long enough that it feels like home. I currently live in Columbia, SC with my boyfriend Kyle and my pup Yadi. When I’m not working at my marketing/communications job, I love finding new hiking trails, getting lost in a good book, and testing out new recipes in the kitchen. I also follow sports closely and love cheering on the St. Louis Cardinals, the Green Bay Packers, and my alma mater, Iowa State University!
How did you get into health and fitness? What did your journey look like?
Honestly, like nearly any other person getting started in fitness, my motivation was first fueled by vanity. I wanted to look good. But my freshman year of college is when I’d say my fitness journey started morphing into a health and wellness journey. In the spring semester of my freshman year of college, I started feeling anxious and down a lot more than what I considered “normal.” I felt nervous about my future, my finances, and my friendships that were changing. Plus, my family decided to officially move across the country. It was during this time that I realized I felt more “myself” and less stressed or anxious when I got a run or lift in, made healthier eating choices, and got more sleep at night. Over the years, I’ve learned so much more about health and wellness and my body, but that’s still the bare bones of my journey today!

How do you encourage or educate others about living a healthy lifestyle?
I try to lead by example and share my experiences when I can. I love sharing recipes or exercises with friends and family when it’s something I know they will actually find useful!
Why do you think it’s important to educate others about living a healthy lifestyle?
Because everyone deserves to be their best self! In addition to educating others, I think it’s so important to educate yourself too. I feel like you can never stop learning when it comes to your body and health.
What suggestions do you have for those looking to start living a healthier life?
Add to your life instead of remove. Add an extra serving of vegetables in a day or add a 30-minute walk in the evening with a friend. Don’t try to remove and restrict. Just try taking one step in a direction toward your goal each day. Oh, and drink more water!

What does a typical day of eating and workouts look like for you?
On weekdays, I am at work by 8 am. I don’t get hungry for breakfast until about 9 am, so that means I pack breakfast, lunch, and any snacks to tide me over until 5 pm.
I usually eat a whole wheat fig bar and a yogurt for breakfast. For lunch, I eat a salad of some sort. Right now I’m also loving olives and a cucumber/tomato mix along with it! Then, later in the afternoon, I eat a trail mix pack from Costco.
I also add two scoops of collagen peptides to one of my bottles of water in the day – I find that it really helps my joints on my runs! Once I’m home, I usually eat an applesauce before heading to workout.
I run 2-3 times a week and lift at the gym 2 days a week. Sometimes I will attend an Orangetheory class to mix things up – the group classes are so motivating to me! Dinners are always different, but some of our staple recipes are shrimp stir fry, BBQ chicken sandwiches, and homemade pizza.
On the weekends, I always try to stay balanced! I definitely enjoy getting drinks and going out with my boyfriend, but I also almost always get some kind of exercise in each day. Sometimes that’s a long walk with my dog, a run to the farmers market, or a day-long hike. I really don’t worry about it too much and try to just enjoy my time off with my little fam.
