TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF!
My name is Jessica Voyles. I am a NASM certified personal trainer in southeast Texas. I have continuing education certificates in fitness nutrition and women’s fitness.
HOW DID YOU GET INTO HEALTH AND FITNESS? WHAT DID YOUR JOURNEY LOOK LIKE?
I got into health and fitness after I had my daughter 10 years ago. I was new in the gym and stuck to cardio machines and classes that they offered. I ran into an old friend who was more familiar with lifting weights and using machines. Once I got out of my comfort zone I was addicted to the changes that strength training was doing to my body!
I then got into counting macros and hired a personal trainer. By this point, both my kiddos were starting school, so I decided with my new free time that I wanted to help others and share my knowledge. I then began studying for my personal trainer exam and started the process of creating my own mobile training company. Best Self Fitness is my baby!
Helping women become even better versions of themselves is my passion. I travel to my girls with all the equipment they need for their workout. I’m always available for nutrition questions, progress pictures, etc. I can truly say that I love my job.
WHAT SUGGESTIONS DO YOU HAVE FOR THOSE LOOKING TO START LIVING A HEALTHIER LIFE?
My advice for anyone starting their journey towards a healthier lifestyle is don’t overthink it or complicate things! Stick to the basics and it will become a sustainable way of living. Also make sure to:
- Drink plenty of water
- Increase your activity
- Practice portion control. Veggies should be half of your plate, followed by protein. Complex carbohydrates should be a quarter of the plate.
- Get plenty of sleep

WHAT DOES A TYPICAL DAY OF EATING AND WORKOUTS LOOK LIKE FOR YOU?
A typical day of eating for me revolves around the 80/20 rule. For the most part, I eat whole foods that are minimally processed. Breakfast is normally oats and eggs. I do one whole egg, 3 egg whites, and load it down with vegetables. I add a little protein to my oats and top them with a serving of fruit. Another favorite is avocado toast and a protein shake!
Lunch is a salad. My favorite combo is a spring mix, feta, strawberries, pecans, purple onion and cucumbers topped with a piece of salmon or shrimp. Afternoon snack is a serving of fruit with rice cakes or a Kind bar. Another favorite snack is Greek yogurt and cucumbers with hummus.
Dinner is typically a lean protein (tuna, chicken, salmon, shrimp), broccoli, asparagus, or brussel sprouts, with some sort of carb source. Yes, I eat carbs at night! I love red potatoes, sweet potatoes, whole-wheat pasta, and sometimes mac and cheese! I almost always end my night with low-calorie ice cream. Greek yogurt bars are normally my go-to.
I like to workout 5-6 days a week. For my workouts, I do two lower-body days, two upper body days, and running in between! I love to mix up my workouts. Some days I lift heavy, some days I do high intensity, circuits, plyometrics. I just really try and listen to body. I’ve learned that fitness is not “one size fits all” and everyone’s body requires different types of training.
