How I Changed My Life With One Simple Concept

Today I have a guest post by Tiffani from Make It Modish. She is sharing her journey and tips on developing a personal brand. Enjoy!

Raise your hand if you’ve ever felt personally victimized by an Instagram influencer?

It honestly feels like these days every person and cute animal has some level of influencer traits online. Whether it’s selling weight-loss tea, hair vitamins or good old fashioned meme pages, there are MILLIONS of voices competing to be the loudest online.

Imposter Syndrome and Influencers

I know I personally have felt that what was once considered “social” media is now a space for comparison and rocket-fuel for imposter syndrome. Let’s be honest, it’s really hard to stand out in this connected world. It’s hard to look introspectively and confidently identify what makes ourselves unique.

Moreover, in this fast-paced, tech-based world, it can be hard to stay consistent when evolving our online identity. Every day newer technologies are rolled out, new filters are launched, and new platforms are established. I think we forget that in the blink of an eye, Instagram could be in its final resting place, right next to MySpace, in the graveyard of technologies past. So my question for you is, will you still have a voice and identity without your carefully curated Instagram grid? The truth is, one day Instagram will be a thing of the past, along with its power of influence. *shudder*

When I began to think about what I was going to do with my post-grad life, I felt this gnawing pull towards the creative world of brand design. Even though it seems as if everyone is branding themselves, I still wholeheartedly believe in the power this strategy has.

You see, even if everyone has a personal brand that doesn’t automatically correlate to instant success and visibility. Much like any other creative industry, there is those who follow the herd towards the unexceptional, while only a few brave souls travel to a place of individuality.

When I was starting my website a few months ago, I didn’t see the tangible signs of growth until I truly dug deep into the soul of my brand. After a great deal of trial and error, introspection, and Instagram story polls, it became clear to me what I needed to do in order to craft my authentic brand.

Ironically, my process of discovery led me to dive headlong into the world of brand consulting. I tried lifestyle blogging, I tried over forms of communication consulting, but ultimately none of these paths felt like ME. One of the main core values that I created my brand consulting firm on is purpose.

Identify Your Purpose

Whether you are just starting out in your career or have many years of experience, it can sometimes be hard to identify your purpose. For me, I thought long and hard about why I even wanted to become a consultant in the first place and why I felt this strong urge to serve other creative entrepreneurs. In my opinion, I think a lot of people get scared when they don’t fully comprehend their purpose in life; I know I did.

There is a great deal of power in understanding your purpose and that your purpose is your brand. If you work towards finding your purpose, you will find the soul which will illuminate your brand to the world.

Once I aligned my brand with my internal purpose something crazy happen. Results. I connected with people, I spoke confidently about my work, and I felt for the first time that my work mattered.

I wanted to share my experience with branding to shed light on its importance. Sure, not every person needs a brand. Not every person sets out to become a leader in their industry or gain visibility to their peers.

If you seek fulfillment in your work, have a desire to see tangible ways in which you are impacting others, and care about your impression on people, the key to all of that is branding.
